As many as 27 officials of various public banks were suspended and another six transferred to non-sensitive posts over corrupt practices and irregular transactions after the IT department seized Rs 5.7 crore in new currency in Bengaluru.

The government has suspended as many as 27 officials of various public sector banks and another six officers have been transferred to non-sensitive posts for irregular transactions that include helping black money hoarders to launder their cash.
"While all efforts are being made to facilitate genuine transactions, illegalities will not be tolerated and appropriate action will be taken against individuals involved in irregular and unauthorised activities," the finance ministry said in a statement.
